The U.S. Air Force investigated the Chiles-Whitted encounter and evaluated possible conventional explanations for the reported object. Investigators considered the possibility that the witnesses had observed a meteor. The witnesses, however, described the object as a nearby structured craft and disputed the meteor interpretation.
