The French gendarmerie investigated Renato Nicolai's report on January 9, 1981. Investigators interviewed the witness, examined the reported landing location, documented the physical trace and collected samples of soil and vegetation. The report forms one of the primary contemporary documents preserved in the GEIPAN case file.
