The 2013 Aguadilla UAP incident refers to infrared footage captured on April 26, 2013, by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) aircraft over Rafael Hernández Airport in Puerto Rico. The video, recorded by a Wescam MX-15D sensor, shows a small, thermal target that appears to move at high speeds, enter and exit the ocean with minimal splash, and split into two identical objects.
Two primary analyses have been conducted on the footage:
Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU): In a 2014 report, SCU concluded the object exhibited anomalous performance, including speeds up to 120 mph and trans-medium travel (air to water) without deceleration. They argued the object could not be a known aircraft, balloon, or natural phenomenon and noted the absence of navigational lights or transponder signals.
All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO): In a March 2025 resolution report, AARO assessed with high confidence that the footage depicts two small objects drifting at wind speed over land, not water. AARO attributed the objects to sky lanterns (likely released at a wedding) and determined that the apparent "split" and "water entry" were optical illusions caused by perspective, thermal crossover, and the objects' proximity to each other.
Key discrepancies include the SCU's claim of anomalous kinematics and water interaction versus AARO's finding of standard wind-driven behavior over land, with the "split" being two separate lanterns that were unresolved in some video frames.
