The GOFAST video was recorded using an AN/ASQ-228 Advanced Targeting Forward-Looking Infrared (ATFLIR) targeting pod aboard a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet assigned to Carrier Air Wing One during the USS Theodore Roosevelt East Coast UAP encounters.
The infrared footage shows a small unidentified object being tracked over the ocean while Navy aviators discuss the contact over the aircraft's intercom. At first glance, the object appears to be moving at extremely high speed just above the water's surface.
Subsequent analysis of the aircraft's telemetry and targeting data has produced differing interpretations regarding the object's actual speed and altitude. Some researchers conclude the apparent high speed is largely the result of viewing geometry, aircraft motion and sensor perspective, while others maintain the object's performance remains unexplained.
The video first became public in 2017 and was officially authenticated and released by the U.S. Department of Defense in April 2020. Together with GIMBAL, it is considered one of the most recognizable military UAP videos.
