The original video of the Phoenix Lights incident was captured by Michael Krzyston on March 13, 1997, at approximately 10:00 PM from his home in Phoenix, Arizona. This footage shows a series of V-shaped lights hovering silently in the sky, a sighting corroborated by Dr. Lynne Kitei, whose own video of the same event is widely circulated.
While Krzyston’s video is the most prominent, it depicts the second major sighting of the night. The first sighting, occurring between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, involved a massive, silent, boomerang-shaped craft described by thousands of witnesses, including Arizona Governor Fife Symington and pilot Kurt Russell. The U.S. military later claimed the lights were A-10 Warthog flares dropped during training exercises, though many witnesses and investigators dispute this explanation due to the timing and visual differences.
