The initial "Flying Disc" press release regarding the Roswell incident was issued on July 8, 1947, by Walter Haut, the public information officer at the Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF). The release stated that the 509th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force had recovered a "flying disc" from a local ranch through the cooperation of rancher W.W. "Mac" Brazel and the Chaves County sheriff's office.
