Edward Cabansag

Airman First Class Edward Cabansag was a security police airman stationed at RAF Bentwaters who served as a key witness in the Rendlesham Forest incident of December 1980. He accompanied Staff Sergeant Jim Penniston and Airman First Class John Burroughs on the night of December 26, 1980, to investigate strange lights in the forest, acting as a radio relay for the other two as they approached the suspected object.

While Penniston and Burroughs reported seeing a metallic, triangular craft with colored lights, Cabansag provided a more cautious account, initially stating he saw only blue, red, white, and yellow lights and unusual animal agitation. He later suggested the lights were likely from the Orfordness Lighthouse or a distant beacon, a view supported by his shift commander and some official investigations that found no radar confirmation of an object. Despite his skepticism, his presence and testimony remain part of the official military record of the incident, which is often referred to as "Britain's Roswell."
