Michael Krzyston

On the night of March 13, 1997, Michael Krzyston captured the most famous amateur video footage of the Phoenix Lights incident from his home in north Phoenix. While he did not witness the earlier V-shaped formation of lights reported by thousands across Arizona between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, Krzyston filmed a separate phenomenon at approximately 10:00 PM.

His video shows a linear array of five to seven stationary lights hovering and moving slowly over the city before they winked out in sequence. Although the U.S. Air National Guard officially attributed the lights to illumination flares dropped during a training exercise, Krzyston and many other witnesses remain unconvinced, citing the lights' perfect formation, silence, and timing discrepancies with the military's flare drop schedule.
