The Ellsworth Air Force Base UFO Incident on August 5, 1953, is a prominent radar-visual case initiated by Phyllis Kellian (also spelled Killian), a trained Ground Observer Corps volunteer in Black Hawk, South Dakota. Killian reported an extremely bright, low-hanging light to the Rapid City filter center, which was patched through to Ellsworth AFB, where radar operators confirmed a solid target at approximately 16,000 feet.
