The Sergei Makarov referenced in the 1989 Voronezh Park incident is a child witness, distinct from the famous professional ice hockey player of the same name.
On September 27, 1989, in Voronezh, Soviet Union, several children, including Sergei Makarov, Vasya Surin, Zhenya Blinov, and Julia Shokolova, witnessed a luminous object in Yuzhny Park. The witnesses described a red or pink sphere that descended, opened a hatch, and released figures they identified as aliens wearing silver suits. Makarov later stated that the beings had brown skin, smooth faces, and appeared to have five fingers.
This incident, often cited in UFO lore, involved approximately 40 witnesses and was featured in a 2001 Discovery Channel documentary segment titled Giants: The Mystery And The Myth. The hockey player Sergei Makarov was an adult NHL star at the time and is not associated with this event.
