Eastern Air Lines pilots William Nash and William Fortenberry observed eight glowing disc-shaped objects maneuvering in formation during a nighttime flight over Virginia.
On July 14, 1952, Captain William B. Nash and First Officer William H. Fortenberry were flying an Eastern Air Lines DC-4 from New York to Miami when they encountered eight brilliantly illuminated disc-shaped objects. The formation approached the aircraft before executing an abrupt coordinated turn and accelerating away at tremendous speed. Several ground observers also reported unusual lights that evening, and the case was investigated by Project Blue Book. Astronomical explanations were considered but failed to fully account for the synchronized maneuvers described by the experienced flight crew.
