On July 2, 1952, Chief Warrant Officer Delbert C. Newhouse, a U.S. Navy photographer, and his family were driving near Tremonton, Utah, when they observed a group of bright, disc-like objects maneuvering across a clear blue sky. Newhouse retrieved his 16mm Bell & Howell camera and recorded approximately forty feet of color film showing the objects moving in loose formation. The film was submitted through military channels and underwent extensive analysis by the Air Force's Photo Reconnaissance Laboratory as part of Project Blue Book. Although various explanations, including birds and balloons, were considered, investigators were unable to reach a universally accepted conclusion.
