George F. Gorman reported a 27-minute aerial encounter with an unidentified luminous object over Fargo, North Dakota, on October 1, 1948, while flying a P-51 Mustang. The object, described as a 6-to-8-inch white light with no visible structure, demonstrated flight capabilities exceeding the aircraft, including speeds over 400 mph, sharp turns, and a steep vertical climb that caused Gorman’s plane to stall at 14,000 feet.
Gorman stated he was convinced of intelligent control behind the maneuvers, noting the object followed natural curves and laws of inertia despite its extreme performance. The sighting was independently corroborated by air traffic controllers and the pilot of a nearby Piper Cub. Although Project Blue Book later attributed the incident to a weather balloon, Gorman and several UFO researchers remained unconvinced by this explanation.
